Before I decide how to prepare for my teaching career, let’s review and reflect!

This semester is the same as the previous semester. Due to the epidemic, the school has been adopting online courses. However, compared with last semester, I am much more proficient in the learning mode of online courses, and I am more familiar with how to use the online resources provided by the teacher. The disadvantage is that my time management ability will still need to be improved.

Because I want to be a teacher in the future, I found a part-time job as a tutor this semester to counsel a school girl in math and psychology. I have experienced the difficulties of being a teacher and also realized the sense of accomplishment in the part-time job. In addition, through the resume writing task of this course, I have a deeper understanding of my abilities and experience. I found that I have a certain degree of procrastination in my life, study and work. I think this will be a big obstacle in my way as a teacher.

So, I decided to improve my skill on time management first!

Time management is a necessary skill no matter what the industry needs, and good time management can work efficiently. After searching a certain amount of information, I found that the “FAST principle” method is very interesting and suitable for me.

“FAST Principle”

1. F-Frog

Divide daily things into important things (frogs) and trivial things (tadpoles). Arrange 1–3 frogs and 5–7 tadpoles every day. According to the twenty-eight rule, concentrate 80% of my energy to accomplish the most important things, and the remaining 20% to do the trivial tasks in life.

2. A-Action

The “frogs” and “tadpoles” have been arranged, and the next step is to write down the frogs and tadpoles and make a list of actions. I choose to list things on the memo on my phone so that I can check it at any time.

3. S-Split

When doing big things, complicated details and pressure always make me anxious, I don’t know where to start, and I lack the ability to execute. “FAST Principle” taught me to break down big things into small ones. It’s like if I had to move a wall, then I must be under pressure to complete it. But what if I dismantle the wall into bricks one by one? It is become very easy to carry, right?

4. T-Time

After finishing the list, I disassembled the goals. To improve the efficiency of study/work, I also need to train time awareness. At this time, some timing gadgets became my good helper. I can take a five-minute break every half an hour of study or work, and I can’t do anything that has nothing to do with study or work. In this way, repeating the pattern of 30 minutes of study and 5 minutes of rest can well regulate my time perception ability.

This is the method I used to improve my time management ability, and it is also an important step in preparing for my teaching career!
